Celestial Pearl Danio facing extinction
This new aquarium-sized fish species - discovered August last year as reported here - may be facing extinction through overfishing. Photos.

Within a few months of its discovery, one Thai company had exported 15,000 individual celestial pearl danios (Celstichthys margaritatus) and exportation since then is likely around the 150,000 mark.
It is not uncommon in the aquarist industry for fishes to become extinct in the wild, saved from total extinction only through captive breeding. This may well be the outcome for this recent discovery. What would Dr Axelrod have thought?
