WLMD is proud to announce a new project - the search for Tasmanian devils on mainland Australia.
Most people aren't aware that at least 5 Tasmanian devils have been collected in Victoria between 1903 and 1991.
Debbie Hynes of thylacoleo.com and I are teaming up for the search and have launched a new website at mainlanddevils.com to report our progress. |

30th November 1934 - gale force winds and torrential rains sank the steamship Coramba off the coast of Victoria, but they also flooded out Healesville Sancturay.
We have already discounted there being live thylacines at the Sanctuary at this time, but what about Tasmanian devils? Can we revist Debbie Hynes' theory - this time with devils in mind? |

With thanks to Dr Sleightholme, Project Director (UK) of the International Thylacine Specimen Database (ITSD), new information is provided concerning the MacKenzie specimen collection.
As a result, it is not likely that MacKenzie released thylacines onto mainland Australia. Read on to find out more... |

Speculation abounds about a supposed "Thylacine Preservation Society" which is said to have procured and released a number of thylacines on the mainland. Release theories abound in an almost cloak-and-dagger shroud of mystery.

Geocaching to save devils |
|
News has just come to me of a geocaching challange about to commence on November 10th. Apart from having fun, the aim is "to raise awareness of the plight of the Tasmanian Devil".
Go to the Devils in Danger game rules to learn more about the game, learn more about devils, contribute financially to devil research and for extra links to useful devil information. |

In Terri Irwin's interview with Ray Martin, screened in Australia tonight, she made brief mention of the plight of the world's largest remaining marsupial carnivore - the Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii).
You may be able to help save this precious species from extinction. Especially if you've seen one in the wild - on the mainland. Yes. Seriously. |
