Going back a couple of months I had the pleasure of seeing dozens of these tiny, extremely fast and fiery little lizards in Australia's Royal National Park.
Take a moment to get up close and personal with one of Sydney's most striking skinks.
I recently had the pleasure of spending a day on Rodd Island in the Sydney Harbour National Park. This tiny piece of land supports numerous trees and other flora, so it was bound to have skinks as well. I began to get excited about another first-time sighting when one of them looked somewhat different to any I had seen earlier...
This three-toed skink came to my attention in a most peculiar way. He's the fifth species of Sydney skink to make his way onto WLMD and the fourth right from my backyard.
Ever heard of an opal fire skink? Me neither, but the photo is worth looking at.
Let's slow down a little and take a moment with some of the most common, and easily observed fauna right in your own backyard. (Well if you live in Sydney, at least...)
